If there is one village in the province of L'Aquila that is not to be missed, it is Scanno! In the middle of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, Scanno is one of the borghi più belli d'Italia (the most beautiful villages in Italy). Perched at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters, it is known for its lake but also for its rich heritage. In the narrow and steep streets of its historic center, you can still see its ancient walls, as well as a multitude of beautiful palaces. Scanno is also famous for its handicrafts, especially for the production of costumes and jewelry (the presentosa, a typical Abruzzo gold medal).
