Main port and capital of the Elba, Portoferraio is one of the best anchorages in the Mediterranean. The arrival by boat is spectacular, discovering the stepped promontory on which the city is built, closing off a pretty bay. The cascade of bastions forming the fortress, built by the Medici, offers a pleasant walk and beautiful views of the city and the boat chase in summer. It was here that, on the evening of 3 May 1814, Napoleon landed and began the sovereignty of the island of Elba for 300 days. Between Portoferraio and Cape Enfola, the Costa Bianca is home to dream beaches, between cliffs and white sand.
