If the history of this port is already very old, its name dates back to 1947, the same name as the penitentiary that is located there. Nestling in the Gulf of Mola, it faces the widest bay on the island of Elba. Always oriented towards fishing, this port of 3,500 inhabitants owes its economic survival in part to the strong tourist activity that takes place there, especially in the summer. Visitors enjoy the charm of Porto Azzurro, with its many shops, lively bars and restaurants, its nearby beaches, and hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the climb to the picturesque sanctuary of Montserrat, nestled in a wilderness.
