Detail of the stay : Weekend trekking on the island of Elba - 3 days
Day 1: The eastern peaks: Cavo - Porto Azzurro
Steps: Portoferraio, Rio Marina, Porto Azzurro, Rio Nell'Elba, Cavo
Starting from Cavo, on the northeastern tip of the island, this first stage allows you to get acquainted with the fragrant scrubland of the island and includes a succession of ascents and descents. A vast panorama is offered to the walker: to the east, on the iron mines of Rio nell'Elba and Rio Marina, to the west, on Portoferraio. The summit of the day: Cima del Monte, which, despite its 516 meters of altitude, requires a lot of energy before being able to enjoy the view of Porto Azzurro, the arrival point. Count on 7 hours of walking for this day.
Day 2: Napoleon's woods: San Martino - Marina di Campo
Steps: Capoliveri, Marina Di Campo, Lacona, San Martino
Departure from San Martino, from the Emperor's country residence in exile, from where trails go through a thick pine forest, to Monte San Martino, the heart of the island. From here continue south to the sandy beach of Marina di Campo, with the sea in background and a panorama stretching from Capoliveri, Braulio to the islands of the southern Tuscan archipelago. 6 hours of trek are expected for this second step.
Day 3: The granite summit: San Piero - Poggio
Steps: Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo, Poggio, San Piero In Campo
The Monte Capanne! You will discover a real playground for mountain lovers... but in the middle of the sea. From the village of the granite workers, San Piero, the path crosses ancient quarries that speak of a past of stonecutters and quarrymen, under the watchful eye of mouflons. The landscape, made of smooth granite rocks, is covered by a low and fragrant vegetation. At the top of Monte Capanne, the highest point of the island (1,019 meters), there is a wonderful panoramic terrace overlooking Corsica, Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo and Giglio. It is time to start the descent towards Poggio, under the oak and chestnut woods. Allow 7 hours of walking in total.
