Montecristo is the southernmost island of the province of Livorno. It is a granite rock, which became famous thanks to the novel by Alexandre Dumas. Its access, very restricted, is allowed only with a special authorization. No possibility of sleeping there. The only occupants are the keeper with his family and two guards in the Villa Reale. There is no ferry to go there, only authorized boats. However, it is possible to book a 6-hour tour in advance, knowing that fishing or swimming is not allowed.
