The second most important island of the archipelago, Capraia was governed successively by Corsica, the Republic of Genoa, the Republic of Pisa, France and even England until 1925, when it was attached to the municipality of Livorno and remained a penal colony until 1986. Since then, tourism has become its first economic activity thanks to its wild island characteristics: steep coasts steep on the sea, intense colours, clear waters. At the extreme southern tip are the remains of a small extinct volcano. Its strong points: Cala Rossa and Cala della Mortola, unique sandy beaches. Access: 2h45 from Livorno with the Toremar company.
