Nicknamed Marciana Alta by the locals, this beautiful village perched at an altitude of 375 m is a medieval town with a maze of small picturesque streets leading to the Pisan fortress. Marciana is home to evidence dating from Prehistory to the Roman period. On the northern ridge of the granite massif of Mount Capanne, at an altitude of 1,019 m, it is the starting point for trekking enthusiasts. It is possible to reach the highest peak of the island on foot (count about 2 hours, 4 km, 750 m of difference in altitude for the most courageous) or by gondola, which allows to go up to 950 m of altitude in less than 20 minutes. The overall view is superb.
