Halfway between Florence and Siena, Panzano in Chianti has often been a source of conflict between the two eternal rival cities. Today, this small town is the ideal base for exploring the Tuscan heart, its gentle hills and legendary vineyards. Panzano is also an obligatory stop for carnivores who will flock to Dario Cecchini, the most famous butcher in the world! After a good meal, the church of Santa Maria Assunta, at the top of the main street, is worth a visit; it houses a Virgin and Child (14th century) by the Florentine painter Francesco Botticini. A rural market is held there every Sunday.
