A city with a discreet charm and a pleasant liveliness, Ravenna hides unique paleo-Christian sites that are the pride of the city and are registered with Unesco. Scattered throughout the historic center, its monuments with brick facades of an elegant sobriety reveal, once the door step crossed, mosaics in bright colors and gold shimmering, whose impassive looks of the figures have seen the centuries pass. These mosaics of the5th and 6th centuries are the work of two schools that succeeded each other: the Greco-Roman school, characterized by the attention paid to landscapes and naturalism of representation, and the Byzantine school where the characters with schematized features appear on gold.
