It is necessary to arrive at Viðareiði at the end of the day. From the hiking path, we are at 800 m of altitude, and, if the weather is grey, we will have the impression to be in the clouds and that the sky falls on your head so much the cloud ceiling is low. A terrible fear known by the Vikings, hence their horned helmets! However, on the west side of the ocean, the sun sets in a clear sky. But whatever the weather of the day, the first meeting with this small traditional village remains unforgettable: white church and small houses with grass roofs clustered at the foot of the giant, the mount Villingdalsfjall which culminates at 844 meters of altitude, third highest summit of the archipelago. In the background, in this strange valley, in the middle of which flows a stream and which shelters 300 souls, modern houses are scattered. Almost all these wooden houses, covered with metal sheets, are built perpendicular to the sea, to better fight against the wind in winter. The distances between the houses are rather large, and far from the coast, the straight streets lined with electric wires and street lamps seem to join the horizon line, under a particular light, a little metallic. It is the most northern agglomeration of the archipelago. In this almost unreal village, you will feel at the end of the world. A trip to Cape Enniberg, the highest sea cliff in the world, is said to be in the Faroe Islands, overhanging the waves by 750 meters, will end your stay in beauty.
