Municipality located on the historic Côte-de-Beaupré, on the eastern shore of the Montmorency River at its mouth in the St. Lawrence. The Montmorency Falls is located in part in Boischatel. The place, which was called "le Sault", was colonized around 1664 with an agricultural vocation. Its development accelerated in the 19th century when various companies settled there because of the hydraulic energy provided by the waterfall. Its attractions include the Royal Quebec Golf Club, founded in 1874, and thus one of the oldest in America, and the Boischatel caves, the longest in the country east of the Rockies.
