Thronos is the gateway to the Valley of Amari. It is reached by leaving the main road that goes towards Fourfouras, at the exit of Agia Fotini. You will appreciate there, besides a grandiose view of the valley, a small chapel (Panaghia) of the 14th century with superb frescoes of the same period, retracing the stages of the life of the Virgin Mary. This chapel is built on the site of an old church, larger and dating from the 4th century: remains of geometric mosaics on the outside testify to this. The site of the ancient Sivrita (marked Sybritos), just outside the village, dates back to the5th century BC and was inhabited until the early Middle Ages
