30 km west of Heraklion, it is in this village that the great painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos, better known as "El Greco", was born in 1541. Fans of the artist, who made his career in Toledo and forever marked the history of painting, will come on a pilgrimage and others will enjoy the landscapes that surround Fodele in a valley of orange and plane trees. Indeed, it is here that the best oranges, mandarins and clementines of the island grow. In mid-March, the orange festival is celebrated here, during which the locals gather to exhibit and exchange all kinds of products, including orange raki.
