Luscious and timeless, the village is best known for housing a convent of French Ursulines, who also ran a school for girls here, one of the largest in Greece. The Jesuits also chose Loutra to establish a monastery. Today, you can still wander through the narrow, magical streets, visiting the former convent and the small agricultural museum housed in a Jesuit monastery warehouse, which displays the village's oil presses, the still used to distill raki and some of the ecclesiastical costumes hand-embroidered by the locals.
