Located in the hinterland, about 20 km from the beaches of Preveli and Ligres, the village is worth a stop if only to admire the Venetian fountain with 19 lion heads from which flows fresh mountain water - supposedly the best in Crete! The village itself does not appear very attractive at first sight, but as soon as you move away from the main axis through the alleys along the hill, it reveals all its charms with many well preserved houses dating from the time of the Venetian occupation. Buses of tourists stop frequently during the day, but in the evening this essentially rural village resumes the quiet course of its life. Most of the stores are in the center around the main square with its many shaded cafes. There is a museum of folk art, pretty churches, charming alleys and the unmissable fountain as an attraction. You will also find a bank and a post office on the main street. There are many rooms for rent, especially on the main street. Note the pretty church at the exit of the village.
