Plakias, known for its sunsets, can be the perfect place to spend a vacation. Although it has grown and modernized in recent times, and the influx of tourists has had a definite effect on this ancient fishing village, the town has retained its charm, and the traditional Cretan welcome is still palpable. As far as beaches are concerned, there is a lot to do in Plakias, especially since the beaches are separated by rocky promontories which offer particularly interesting diving spots. You can find everything in town. It is crossed by a river spanned by a small bridge and runs along a large beach with a blue flag. The seaside is full of shops, hotels, taverns and bars. From there, narrow streets lead up the hill and end up in fields of olive trees for the most part. Following the seaside westward after the small harbor, a path leads to the beautiful and wild beach of Souda at 3 km. Eastward to Paligranos for about 2 km, the beach is never totally crowded with places occupied by umbrellas and where it is possible to rent windsurfers, catamarans, canoes and other pedal boats. Continuing to the end of the bay, the same large and beautiful beach of Plakias is frequented by friendly nudists.
