Located 13 km from Hania, Alikianos is a large village in the center of an orange and lemon producing region. Post office, gas station, tavernas and kafeneia are present in the village, but you will find few or no rooms to rent. Alikianos is in a plain crossed by the river Keritis (formerly Lardanos and called Platanos downstream). A little before arriving there, before leaving the road that goes up to the plateau of Omalos, the building topped with antennas that you see is an old farm that was transformed during the war into a prison by the Germans: the area was renamed "the valley of the prison".
