Welcome to Kythera! The discovery of the narrow streets dotted with white houses and churches, at the foot of the Venetian citadel, is enchanting. Following the bay, which opens out onto the open sea, you'll discover an unspoilt sandy beach at the end of Sparagario cove, before arriving at Kaspsali. With its two beaches and marina, this is undoubtedly the most touristic spot on the island. In the past, however, it was here that Saint John began writing theApocalypse, before going to Patmos to finish his work. 4 km inland, the British left their mark on Livadi, building a stone bridge and a school with Gothic windows. Heading towards the west coast, you can swim at Limnaria and admire the monastery of Panaghia Myrtidiotissa. Its church contains an icon of the Black Madonna that a 13th-century shepherd claims to have found in the myrtle bushes. Returning to Chora along the coast, you'll come across a beautiful beach at Melindoni, from where you can see the islet Avgo ("egg").
