In this area, the chestnut is king. Just before arriving at Agia Irini, a road on the left leads to Omalos with some beautiful views. From Agia Irini, the road gradually descends towards the sea and Sougia. At the exit of Agia Irini, at Epanochori, it is the beginning of the Irini gorge, superb and much less frequented than the Samaria gorge.
