It is the only natural lake in Crete: it is fed by the snow of the White Mountains which melts in summer and by two springs. You will see an impressive number of eels and, it seems, turtles. Swimming is allowed and it is pleasant to swim in this beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. When there is a little fog on top of the surrounding mountains, the atmosphere seems almost unreal and you feel like you're in a fantasy or David Lynch movie set. It's a beautiful place, no matter what the weather, and it's still quite unspoiled. You can rent pedal boats for pleasant walks on its waters or go kayaking. Good child and old-fashioned atmosphere guaranteed.
