Located 5 km from Vamos on the road that connects Rethymnon to Hania, this former small fishing port has recently opened to tourism by offering sandy beaches that extend eastward for nearly 10 km. The development of Georgioupolis has accelerated in recent years: the hotels have grown not very harmoniously along the beach, installing their deckchairs and umbrellas (paying!), and the clientele, mainly from northern Europe, usually stay there for a week with their families. Georgioupolis, a little saturated with tourism compared to its modest size, loses a good part of its cachet in July and August... The main square, around the fountain, hosts many restaurants, mini-markets and souvenir shops
