16 km southwest of Hania, via Perivola, at an altitude of 500 m. The road crosses the Therisso Gorge to the foot of the Lefka Ori (White Mountains), past orange and tangerine plantations. They are also called the Venizelos Gorge by the Cretans. The mother of the founder of modern Greece was indeed born there and it is from there that the 1905 rebellion started: Venizelos, then Minister of Justice of the Cretan local government, wrote his resolution there after an argument with Prince George, representative of the Great Power in Crete, four years earlier: "We, being assembled in a meeting held in Therisso of Kydonia, we, Cretans, on this 10th of March 1905, declare before God and men, our political union with the Kingdom of Greece within an indivisible, free and constitutional state. " A museum is held in the small house that served as the headquarters of Eleftherios Venizelos with some relics of those heroic times.
