It was in this mining center that the first miners' strike in Italy was held in 1904. The village of Buggerru, nestled in a gorge that leads to the sea, was able to reinvent itself after the zinc and lead mines closed in 1979. Today it is a tourist destination that enjoys a moderate development and a varied environment: the hypnotic Cala Domestica, one of the most beautiful coves of Sardinia, the cliffs of Capo Pecora or the sandy spit of San Nicolo. The mining remains and the Henry Gallery can be visited on foot. In the south of the wild Costa Verde, Buggerru is also appreciated by surfers, for its strong waves.
