This is the historic centre of the island. Founded in 1428 by the Norman conqueror Jean de Béthencourt who gave it this name in homage to Princess Teguise, his wife, a native of this village. Until the middle of the 19th century, Teguise was the administrative, political, military and religious capital of the island. And was classified of historical and artistic interest in 1985. The city deserves that one takes the time to wander through its stone streets lined with typical white houses. It is also home to bars, restaurants and craft shops. Its big highlight is on Sunday morning when the mercadillo is held, to which the whole island rushes.
