Just 2 km northeast of Fuerteventura, Isla de Lobos is separated from Corralejo by the Bocaina Strait and can be reached by boat in just a few minutes. This 6 km² islet, crowned by the 127 m-high volcano La Caldera, is covered in lava and features other smaller craters. Now uninhabited, it was home to the lighthouse keeper and his family until 1968. It owes its name to a colony of Mediterranean monk seals known as lobos marinos, or sea wolves, which once inhabited the island. Before visiting the island, you need to obtain a permit, which you can request 5 days in advance at https://lobospass.com.
