Brela is located 15 km northwest of Makarska, at the foot of the Biokovo massif. The town was founded by the Romans between the 1st and 4th centuries, and was later occupied by the mountain people who gradually moved down to the coast. Here you can admire the church of Gospa od Karmela, a monument of the 18th century architecture, while the church of St. Stephen dates from the 19th century. Today, the coastal town, with a population of just over 1,750, lives on agriculture and tourism. There are huge hotel complexes, a small marina and above all the beautiful Punta Rata, one of the most beautiful beaches of fine pebbles in Croatia.
