West of Jelsa, on the northern coast, the village of Vrboska is very picturesque. It is the smallest place on the island. Located at the bottom of a fjord, it is almost hidden. In order to get there and to move around, several small stone bridges have been built over the years, spanning a river flowing into the sea. This is how Vrboska came to be known as the "Little Croatian Venice". It has a Mediterranean architecture and historical houses mixing Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles, which are reflected in the water. Worth seeing: the fortress church of St. Mary of Mercy and the Fishing Museum.
