After the earthquake of 1962, plans for the reconstruction of Makarska were directed towards tourism, and several resorts were built on its shoreline along a distance of about 60 km.The best way to enjoy the immense panorama of the city is to arrive by boat and dock in the port, after passing the Osejava Peninsula, the Park šuma around the lighthouse Sveti Patar. A ferry makes regular rotations between Makarska and Sumartin (island of Brač). At the foot of the Biokovo massif, the urban layout seems to be organized in tiers. It is in one of these streets that the administrative offices of the natural park are located.
