In the north-western part of Gorski Kotar, the natural area around Mount Risnjak was declared a national park in 1953. Over an area of 64 km2, unusual geological phenomena have been recorded here, formed by the passage of rivers through karst rock. Bears, lynxes and wildcats still roam these wild lands, covered with virgin forests, vast meadows and rivers. You can visit caves, sail on lakes, climb or hike on its vast expanses. Don't miss the alignments of stones standing like natural menhirs.
