The park covers 180,000 ha of medium mountains in all shades of green. There are small villages with whitewashed houses, Alájar, in the historical centre in Mudejar style. Its steep landscape calls for hiking between forests of chestnut trees, pastures planted with holm and cork oaks or areas of white poplars, olive trees, walnut and cherry trees. There are three stations on the Huelva-Zafra (Extremadura) line, with 1 to 2 trains a day to Almonaster-Cortegana, Jabugo-Galaroza or Cumbres Mayores.
