Amidst oaks and olive groves, it is a peaceful town of almost 12,000 inhabitants. Built by the Templar order in the 13th century, it was under Portuguese rule until the beginning of the 19th century. Its historical heart offers a beautiful ensemble of civil, religious and military architecture in Manueline style. During a visit, don't hesitate to stroll around its walls, which are the trace of its frontier character, and to discover its castle. Not to mention the church of the Magdalena, a jewel of the Manueline style. The city is located 26 kilometers south of Badajoz and is also served by the Damas bus company.
