Vacoas-Phoenix is located 16 km south of Port Louis and only a few kilometres from Curepipe and Quatre Bornes. The first one is interesting for its Tuesday and Friday market. Located in a huge market hall, it is one of the nicest and least touristy on the island: a den of a thousand smells, overflowing with fruits and vegetables, herbs, chilli-cake and dholl-puris stalls... Phoenix, on the other hand, has been home to the island's very first brewery since 1963 and is one of the most important, producing a traditional, light and thirst-quenching lager with a sweet exotic aroma.
