Meedhupparu is a beautiful oval island, 700 metres long and 250 metres wide, and is particularly well endowed in terms of greenery. It is surrounded by an extra-fine sand beach and an iridescent turquoise lagoon. Unfortunately, erosion and global warming are having their effect. The lagoon has no more corals, so you have to swim to the reef to see some underwater life. But the drop off is quickly sinking into the depths, which is not very conducive to snorkeling. Breakwaters have been placed around the reef on the west side of the island and the beach is covered with concrete dikes to prevent it from disappearing. Unfortunately, this gloomy picture is the lot of many Maldivian islands. However, it should not spoil your holiday if you are looking for a sunbathing or romantic getaway in a tropical paradise. The island is occupied by the Sri Lankan Adaaran group which owns other resorts in the Maldives. A relaxed atmosphere reigns there, animated by a warm and friendly staff. We regret all the same the intense development of the island. The villas on stilts are curiously rented under a different sign: the Adarran Prestige Water Villas. Yet bungalows on the island or in the lagoon share the same facilities and services.
