Giraavaru closes the south of the North Malé lagoon. The island is therefore very close to Malé, and it takes about 25 minutes to get there by speedboat from the airport. The island is only 100 meters long and 60 meters wide, and the developers had to cheat a little on the sea to allow all the infrastructures to fit. Its location near the chemical warehouses of Thilafushi is not ideal and the erosion caused by the strong currents in the channel are gradually making its beach disappear. On the other hand, the island has a superb drop off on its western side, absolutely perfect for snorkeling during the day and at night.
