Travel Guide Kihaadhuffaru

The charming Kihaadhufaru has all the assets of a Maldivian island. With a length of 400 metres and a width of 250 metres, it is large enough to relax your legs and enjoy the exotic vegetation. Bordered by a wide strip of white sand, it delights lovers of heavenly beaches. To the north, the shallow and vast lagoon is ideal for swimming, especially with children. To the south, the reef, closer to the beach, allows for outings in PMT to admire the multicolored fish. Wave breakers protect the eastern part of the island, which has been weakened by erosion, and preserve a pleasant natural pool which allows you to have water above your waist. The island is occupied by the Kihaa resort which offers all the services you would expect from a 5* hotel-club. Numerous categories of rooms, multiple activities, animated evenings, there is something for everyone and the atmosphere is resolutely turned towards a festive holiday. The clientele is rather young and many diving enthusiasts come here. Kihaadhuffaru is the closest island-hotel to the Unesco listed Hanifaru Bay. A marine protected area within the Baa Biosphere, Hanifaru Bay is considered the best place to see manta rays up close in the Maldives. Traffic in the bay is very limited (5 boats and a maximum of 80 people per day) and guests of the island-hotels are invited to visit only every other day. The other day is reserved for guests from the surrounding local islands. Manta rays come to feed on plankton in Hanifaru Bay. It is pushed by the currents from the west and trapped in the bay. From July to September, you can easily see up to 35 rays in this bay. To top it all off, the bay is closed to diving and open only to snorkelers. If you are a keen diver, try to time your stay to coincide with the full or new moon. This will increase your chances of seeing them in numbers. Hanifaru Bay is closed to the public from December to April. However, you can still enjoy the beautiful seabed of Baa Atoll during this period and the very pleasant surroundings of Kihaadhuffaru Island.
