Bathala is an oval-shaped island, 200 m long and 100 m wide, surrounded by a beautiful uninterrupted beach. There is almost no lagoon, the reef is very close to the beach and descends rapidly. The vegetation is beautiful, although there are more bushes than coconut trees. The resort has been completely redesigned and rebuilt by the Planhotel Group to open in 2019. So everything is brand new, in a very modern, not-quite-Maldivian style. Because of its small size, the island only hosts 70 rooms. They are all decorated in a bright white that could quickly suffer from the aggressive conditions of the Maldivian climate.
