This island was the first to be opened to tourism in 1972 and has been renovated periodically. Medium in size (300 meters x 500 meters), it is covered with a worked vegetation intended to hide somewhat the hyper-construction on the island. It does not leave much room for the usual lushness of the Maldives. The island is surrounded by a protective dike against erosion which breaks the charm of the lagoon and makes swimming and snorkeling difficult but safe. The island is after all located just opposite Hulhumale and sees many boats passing by. If Vihamanaafushi is a historical island, it is not very interesting for diving even if a part of the island is dedicated to the diving school. Moreover, the proximity of the Malé airport induces a lot of traffic around the island, which causes noise pollution from planes, seaplanes and boats that circulate at all hours. In order to compensate for these inconveniences, Kurumba focuses on quality services, notably with very spacious rooms. There are many activities, especially for children who can take advantage of a mini-club and a teen club. Adults can take advantage of the tennis courts, the gym and numerous water sports activities. One does not come to Kurumba to seek tranquillity, but rather to party in a very lively club atmosphere. There is entertainment every night, including concerts, DJ-sets or a bodu beru folklore show.
