Close to Malé, Furanafushi was home to a people whose religion was Buddhism. Different times, different customs! For the past ten years, it has been transformed into a luxury destination, the new religion aiming to attract an international clientele. It is run by the international hotel group Sheraton, whose reputation is well established. The island is 900 metres long and 300 metres wide, and the vegetation is well-tended, with bougainvillea and other flowering trees. With its 176 rooms, the resort is one of the heavyweights of the Maldives. If you dream of peace and quiet and isolation, you'd better go a little further.
