Located at the northern tip of the South Malé Atoll, the island is positioned on a passageway that is very popular with the boats serving the atoll's hotels. Small in size, barely 3 hectares, the island is surrounded by a beautiful lagoon full of fish, but where the currents are strong. Snorkeling is undoubtedly the strong point of this island, on which the resort capitalizes. It lends free equipment to all its guests and organizes free trips into the lagoon twice a week. A long and beautiful beach runs all around the island, which does not suffer too much from erosion, unlike many of its sister islands in the atoll. Like all Universal Resort islands, it looks like a French garden. Flowerbeds and bougainvillea adorn the colorful tropical vegetation, which is meant to take the focus off the intense construction on the island. The Velassaru Maldives resort was completely renovated in 2008 to offer a large number of rooms of different categories that meet the standards of a 5-star hotel. During this renovation, the hotel has retained its natural and friendly feel. The resort offers a wide range of water sports activities, both motorized and soft. Velassana Maldives is committed to the preservation of marine diversity and hosts a Marine Centre run by a biologist. He studies the evolution of the lagoon and has set up a coral conservation programme in which you can participate. Another advantage is that the island is only 25 minutes by speedboat from Malé. The holidays start as soon as you get off the plane.
