"O time! Suspend your flight"... Everyone knows this verse from Lamartine. But perhaps not the statue of the poet erected in Chindrieux, at the end of Lake Le Bourget, under the castle of Châtillon. Hidden in a creek, Alphonse de Lamartine contemplates the lake. His memory reminds us of his stay in Aix-les-Bains where he came to take the waters and where, on a rainy day, in 1816, he saved Julie Charles, the future Elvire, with whom he fell in love. Three years later, surprised by the crossing, a gust of wind, Lamartine took refuge at the castle and recited verses to Baron Rambert de Châtillon. Chindrieux keeps the poet's memory.
