It's a lacework of streams that crosses the commune of Le Fau from the puy Violent and the puy Chavaroche. The rushing water flows into the Maronne, a tributary of the Dordogne. This mountain commune in the heart of the Cantalien massif is one of the least populated in the département. Here and there, you can spot chamois, mouflons, marmots, griffon vultures and golden eagles. The Apollon Arverne, a butterfly endemic to the Monts du Cantal, can also be seen. Le Fau didn't become a commune until 1870, when it was separated from Fontanges. The Saint-Roc church was built in the 19th century. La Bastide has a ferruginous spring.
