The Metropolis is within sight, as is the Alps. Just a few minutes from the centre of Lyon, Riverie has preserved its past charms. A strategic site on the road leading from Vienne to Montbrison, from the Rhône to the Loire, this place has been fortified since its origins, attested in the 10th century. Enclosed by powerful walls, the village prospered around its castle, and the Middle Ages made Riverie a charming village that can still be admired today by walking along the covered way - mostly on the old ramparts - from which the panorama is striking. The partial destruction of the ramparts and the castle in the 16th century did not change the face of a medieval village with narrow streets, picturesque houses, with a look that has become romantic over time. Atypical, unusual, envied, adored, this commune remains one of the 12 smallest in France and, of course, the smallest in the Rhône department. You should "forget" your car in the car park at the entrance to the village and stroll through the streets, on the cobblestones in front of the village inn - Les 3 Archers de la Table Ronde, which was once a hospice for the Knights of St John of Jerusalem. Take a break in the small church square at the top of the village - close to a lovely guest house to be discovered in our guide - to see the Sully lime tree planted in 1595 as a sign of peace. One of the most beautiful escapades to do around Lyon.
