In the Middle Ages, the town of Lespinasse, destroyed in 1590 during the wars of Religion by a tragic fire, consisted of several hundred inhabitants. It had many buildings that were mostly destroyed, including a chapel castrale Saint-Michel in a parish linked to that of Saint-Forgeux and dependent on the Benedictine priory of Ambierle. It housed the graves of the lords of the dead Espinasse who died in the crusades; it remains until 1761. Furnaces, presses and moulins mills. A pilloried where convicts were kept. The stately manor houses and the fairs that contributed to the success of Lespinasse.
