Saint-Geoire-en-Valdaine (2,300 inhabitants) is located at the end of the cold lands, in a hilly landscape, not far from the Chartreuse massif, whose relief can be seen to the east. The village boasts 7 castles, of varying degrees of importance, which are, for the most part: the castle of Montcla, which houses the current town hall and school, and the castle of Longpra, unparalleled in the vicinity (especially through its park) and can be visited all year. Other castles are the castle of Clermont, the castle of La Rochette, then the fortified houses of Etergne, Cabarot and Lambertière
