Roybon (1,000 inhabitants) is located in the upper Galaure valley, on the border with the Drôme. Its territory covers a large part of the Chambaran plateau. Two notable buildings are to be seen while crossing the town: the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church (XIXth c.) of neo-Romanesque style, built in pebbles and bricks, and the replica of the Statue of Liberty, on the central square. This 3-meter high monument was erected in 1906 in honor of Henri Saint-Romme (1797-1862), one of the main characters of the2nd Republic in Isère. It was bequeathed by Auguste Bartholdi to his son, Mathias Saint-Romme (1844-1920), then mayor of Roybon.
