It is a work of the sculptor Bartholdi, offered to his friend Mathias Saint-Romme in honour of his father Henri, Senator, arrested during the coup d'état of Napoleon III. With that of Paris, she is among the few remaining statues to have the same torch as their great American sister. This three-metre tall statue is a faithful replica of the original, which is a throne at the entrance to the port of New York.
