Le Bourg-d'Oisans (3,400 inhabitants) is located in the northern part of the Écrins National Park, 6 km from the Infernet Gorge. The small town occupies a central position in a plain where the six valleys of the Oisans meet. Its strategic position between Grenoble and the major Alpine resorts makes it an unavoidable place of passage and supply, as well as an ideal base for touring the region. The resort of Alpe d'Huez (Alt. 1860 m) is 14 km to the north, on the D211, a road that is well laid out but with many hairpin bends. If you stay in town, visit the Musée des Minéraux et de la Faune des Alpes.
