The history of Chamrousse begins in the 13th century, when the site was only occupied by a convent of nuns dependent on the Grande Chartreuse. The Revolution led to the destruction of the convent. In 1878, Henri Duhamel, a mountaineer from Grenoble, was the first person in France to try skis on the slopes of Le Recoin. In 1911, the Recoin chalet in Chamrousse was the first refuge dedicated to skiing. The development of the resort began in the 1950s. It will receive the alpine events of the 1968 Olympic Games. This event was a magnificent springboard for Chamrousse which never ceases to reinvent itself in the face of the new challenges of tourism.
