Built near a cluse where the Drôme rushes in with the waters of the Roanne, Saillans (1 300 inhabitants) opens onto the Diois. Facing the Trois Becs, which border the Saoû forest, the village developed on the site of an ancient Roman relay station in the Middle Ages, under the aegis of powerful rural lords. Stretched out over the Drôme, Saillans has a unique charm and a southern style with its streets lined with plane trees, its squares decorated with fountains and its alleys lined with old houses. This peaceful village comes alive on Sunday mornings at market time and during village festivals such as the famous 14th July ball.
