Montauban-sur-Ouvèze is a small commune with less than 120 inhabitants. It is established on the banks of the Ouvèze, at the foot of the Chamouse mountain (alt. 1 531 m), one of the highest in the Baronnies. The Perty pass (alt. 1,302 m) is located 10 km to the east, by a beautiful winding route. From the pass, you can see the Alps. The history of the village is linked to the barons of Montauban who, in the 12th and 13th centuries, controlled a domain extending from Valréas to Rosans. After the abandonment of the village in the 17th century, the new village was rebuilt in hamlets. The valley was very busy until the 14th century, when the popes were in Avignon.
